Why are British & Americans fighting over two simple terms of Chinese origin?

Both "soccer" %26amp; "football" are derived from Chinese, NOT even related to English. The former = an ancient Chinese "ball" game called "cuju" in Mandarin [but it's not really Mandarin but other Chinese dialects which is dated earlier than Mandarin: pronounced something similar to "choo(k)-koo(k)"], 蹴鞠, which isn't a translation, which is somehow corrupted into "soccer". The latter is a Modern Chinese way of saying the same thing, "football" = from 足球 [足, "zu" in Pinyin = "foot/feet", 球, "qiu" in Pinyin = "ball(s) [as a sport]" respectively in Chinese translations into English] translated bit by bit into English. Both Americans %26amp; British peoples have their histories wrong and are still bickering about it!!!

also with whole history thing, the chinese didn't use a ball when playing what is now called football-they used decapitated heads usually or inflated pigs stomachs. Yes they can be traced back to the starting point of football maybe.



also i think its more with logic that it is a ball that is hit by the foot hence football

Where "soccer" or "football" originated has nothing whatsoever to do with it. The fact is that both the word "soccer" and the word "football" are now English words which in Great Britain (and indeed most of the English speaking world) mean the same things but which in America and Australia have different meanings. Your argument is no more valid than arguing that the spellings "color" or "colour" are irrelvant because both come from a Latin word. The Wikipedia Article you quote does NOT seek to establish that the Chinese words you quote are at the origins of either word and, indeed, there are a number of references to traditional, ancient, or prehistoric ball games, played by indigenous peoples in many different parts of the world.Why are British %26amp; Americans fighting over two simple terms of Chinese origin?
