yes, we have retards that no nothing about Soccer, that just come on when we win, but then everybody judges us like ALL Americans act like that. We dont. Then theres the Soccer/Football thing. People are trying to tell us that its called FOOTBALL, not SOCCER, but yes, it is. Soccer stands for something like Association Football, something like that, its like an abreviation. It was going to be called that like in England, but they decided not to, and we already had a sport called Football, so we used the nickname. whats so wrong with that? anyways, what back to the question. we have a lot of American douches come on here who usually dont know a thing about this sport, then gloat because we won. most Americans who know a little bit more about the World Cup, will know that most likely we will be eliminated, our history shows that. but what im saying is can people stop judging all the Americans about what they do if a couple of American idiots come on here and say stuff. THANK YOU!
BQ: what are your predictions for the World Cup?Why does everyone in this section always try to make fun of the U.S?
Sweetie, it's called football, sorry to let you down there. Let's see, the entire world calls it football, except Americans. It was much older then American football, meaning it was named first. I could go on but everyone knows I'm right. There is nothing wrong with the nickname by the way. It's just people teasing each other like I just did! :P
As for judging Americans, I can speak for myself. I've read about 50 questions/comments here from Americans who have no sense of reality and do not know what they are talking about. And about 5 comments from Americans with good sense, and I'm guessing the same happens to others, so you can't really blame them, right?
The thing is, the ignorants have the tendency to make themselves heard a lot more. It only takes one ignorant person to speak their mind while 10 with common sense say nothing at all, for such judgment to occur.
As you can't (unfortunately) keep the ignorants from speaking, I say everyone else should share their opinions as well, and make people see that there are 10 smart Americans for every stupid one that speaks.
PS: A good example of ignorance is that comment above mine, by Jake. See what I'm talking about? O.o
JAKE: we don't care! Billions os people love football. Do you really think anyone would change the rules to please a few million Americans that would maybe like it?
Everybody hates anyone and anything that is on top.
And America is the most powerful nation in the world.
I mean if you lived in crappy south America, or Africa and even England you would be jealous of us to. Jealousy leads to hatred.
We dominate everything else in the world and we always win the olympics so soccer is one thing they have on us and they like to let us know about it.Why does everyone in this section always try to make fun of the U.S?
I think it's because they're mad that here in the U.S. soccer is not a big sport and yet we are giving countries that call it their national sport a run for their money, as we say here in America. Either that or because they don't like are government and as simple minded twits think that everyone in America is the same and we all agree with everything the government does as if our country is somehow different from theirs, i guess the think what they see on TV is real. imo.
I think they should raise the goals 10 feet, allow one-on-one plays, free throws and quarterbacks.
Just kidding, but the game is really stale and needs a shake-up. The game needs to be adapted for America, and the more the Euros deny it, the more they can forget about gaining any American audience. Why does everyone in this section always try to make fun of the U.S?
those people are douches and only show up when their team wins.. real fans stick by their team win or lose, it is a matter of pride, i am not really a fan of the u.s. but i do hope they go far because they represent CONCACAF and it is about time someone put concacaf on the map...
if ARJEN ROBBEN is healthy then holland will finally win the cup...
You guys probably have some the most loyal football fans on the planet because God knows I couldn't live with some of the numbskulls in that country. Not surprisingly you guys actually have a large fanbase as well.
Argentina to beat Brazil/Holland in the finals
it is the passion of soccer that is what it is kinda about you fighting for your team to be the best
it is those fans that make people hate your team
or your teamis great rials with another
like mexico and argentina
Either:
1. They're anti-American like most of the world
2. They're jealous of our great country, which can lead to option 1
BQ: Brazil and Netherlands meet in final, Brazil wins 2-1 on PK
They can called football soccer if they want. It's their language.
Australia and New Zealand call it soccer. So do Ireland.
They are mad that their team got knocked out and USA won their group, oh and I think Argentina will win, but I am rooting for the USA
A guy just asked if Donovan belongs in the world's top 5 players along with Kaka, Messi and C. Ronaldo.
predictions:
Argentina Champion
So your first whole paragrph was just whining and complaining? Good job trying to use yourself as an "american" model. Any who I hope Brasil wins
Not many chances people can make fun of Americans. Let them eat cake once every four years.
I don't no. I think they no know thing about soccer.
don't care it was us English who invented to word anyway look it up
I am american. I admit i prefer american football and basketball to soccer, but i am still a soccer fan. (and not just during the world cup i might add). It is a great sport and i am glad to see it gaining popularity in the united states.
One guy says he HATES people that only watch soccer during the cup. Why? It is great to see people interested in it for any reason. As long as people are watching it, it will grow. For example, hockey was on a huge decline in the US and after the olympics when we got the silver medal it gained tons of popularity. This years stanley cup was one of the most watched ever.
Too bad no good players really play in MLS. Except for donavon, buddle, and a handful of others there are no good americans playing club soccer in america. IF our great players stayed here it would gain popularity. If kobe and lebron and other good basketball players played in europe would people even care? I don't think so. MLS needs to get dempsey, howard, bradley, onyewu, and the other great americans to play in amerca.
ON to my predictions. Part of it is bias but I could easily see the USA beating ghana and then uraguay or s. korea and make it to the semifinals. In the confed. cup we made it obvious that we could play with brazil and spain So i could see us making the finals. I do believe that this is just the beginning of things to come for us soccer. In 2014 and beyond we will be major contenders. We have the best athletes. We prove that every olympics. If popularity grows and more kids start playing soccer we could become a brazil in a few years time.
I'm American and I hate those that only watch soccer during World Cup and not care about it afterwards, as well as being arrogant and patriotic when they have no knowledge of the game what so ever and do not appreciate the beauty of the sport.
I'd say that Either Germany or Brazil.
- Germany is the most consistent country to ever play in the World Cup. Although no European countries ever won a WC outside of Europe, Germany was the closest. They have formidable all-around squad who can easily take the cup.
- Brazil would be second because their coach Dunga set the team that is not like the usual "Samba" and "Joga Bonito" style they prefer to play. That's why you won't see guys and Ronaldinho, Adriano, Ronaldo, etc. It's a defensive team that resembles European style. It's a different team from previous WC's and so far, they are doing well.
Hey listen - this is the internet. Any manner of tact will go out of the window. Don't believe me go on almost any youtube video and look at the comments.
Now, as for the word soccer. Soccer was never going to be used in England. It was a word made in England that is kind of an abbreviation of asSOCiation football - it was made for countries such as Ireland, Australia and the USA where they have different sports called football. I don't mind Americans using the word "soccer" - what I do mind is someone telling me that I shouldn't call the sport Football because America has now taken to the sport (like what happened to me last night). Then someone will be firmly put straight.
As for Americans who are new to the sport - I think it is great. I watch them with a little bit of jealousy as I remember the rollercoaster of my first World Cup. Even though some of them can be obnoxious and try to tell some of us veterans how the sport works - they sometimes think they know much more than they do.
I've met some Americans who know about the sport - Football is a universal language. That is a great thing about the sport - if you went abroad on vacation and played football with some Spaniards who didn't speak English they would understand what you wanted them to do by your position on the pitch and your movement.
Everyone can understand it if they watch or play it long enough.
personally i hate anyone who is loud and obnoxious and disrespectful to everyone around him, and thinks they are better, wherever they are from. It makes me temporarily hate everything about such a person including their country, and many people from many countries are that way.
The truth is the negative stereotype has been allowed for so long, that the media showing one bad behaved american, for a second is enough to make people hate them. I don't think people who hate Americans for no good reason though are any better.
By the way the English came up with the name football first sometime in the 1800's. Still you should be proud of your team, surprisingly they are doing really well.
I don't know who will win, anything can happen in the world cup
but AGUANTE ARGENTINA
As a true football fan I have found it totally out of order that some people go on about hating each other and making some really offensive comments.
I have often thought that football ( or soccer as the Americans call it because they've got their 'gridiron' football) should be above all that and bridge the gap between other countries as a whole.
To say you "hate Americans" is quite frankly absurd ( but a little friendly 'ribbing' is OK between different sets of supporters), to hate Germans for what happened before most of you were even born is equally ridiculous.
Football or 'soccer' should rise above this - so get real - ignorance should not be given this much attention.
COME ON ENGLAND !!
