Should the NFL change their name to the NGL?

To avoid confusion. When people think of the word football, what springs to mind? 22 people kicking a ball to each other with the view of scoring more goals than their opponents, by KICKING the ball into the goals. That's football.

Football's global governing body is FIFA, an acronym for F茅d茅ration Internationale de Football Association (International Federation of Association Football)

We can all agree that Football is the biggest team sport in the world.

But a foreign organisation has chosen to call themselves the NFL, when they have nothing to do with football, they play Gridiron. A foreign game. That would make it plagiarism to use the term football, when it's not. In doing so, it just creates confusions. No more evident than on Yahoo Answers.

I believe the NFL should change their name to the NGL, to have their game unique as they want it to be.

NGL - National Gridiron League. You know it makes senseShould the NFL change their name to the NGL?
There are sports leagues with the exact same abbreviation

Example AFL could stand for Arena Football League and Australian Football League

So why should any sport like American Football Australian Football change its name just to make FIFA happy
Obvious answer: We have nukes. We'll call it what we want, and you will call us "Sir."

Should the NFL change their name to the NGL?
Football started out as a combination of soccer and rugby. The ball still gets kicked fairly often and no one in america calls the game "gridiron". While "futbol" may be popular the world over, the amount of money gained under the name National Football League is vastly greater than that of international soccer, or even the world cup; owing to TV ratings and merchandising. No one is going to change the name of a multibillion dollar operation because some people over seas confuse it with what is considered by many in america as a dull and uniteresting sport.
Does this really concern you ?

Here in the USA, soccer draws the interest of young kids. That is about it.

If these kids are talented enough to play football, basketball or baseball, they will leave the extremely boring sport known as soccer. If they are not talented enough, they will remain in soccer.

Sorry if you don't like it. Soccer will never be a big attraction here.Should the NFL change their name to the NGL?
Oh, this is about the name of your Answers board, isn't it? It's called Football (Soccer). You hate the name Soccer. The reason it's set up that way is because Yahoo is an AMERICAN organization. Europeans believe that Americans think that we're so entitled. Then, they come over to visit our country and criticize everything they see. If I have a problem with a country's culture, I don't come to visit.
dude that's insane! they would never change such a classic name like that!

that's like changing the "49ers" to the "58ers" it just doesn't make sense!

it's like changing "NHL (national hockey league)" to "NIHL (National Ice Hockey League)" It doesn't make sense!
The NFL is a trademark known around the world. It is easily one of the mast recognized acronyms ever. It would be insane to change the name.
uuummmmmmmmm..............no!! if they did change something..they should change it from the national football league 2 the no fun league
Only if you plan on changing the FIFA to FISA.

Federation Internationale de Soccer Association.
A football use to be a foot long. That's why they call it a football.
NFL rolls off the tounge alot better!

Besides, renaming the sport would make know sense and would confuse to many people across the world.
i dont really care, no matter what it's called the sport will always be football to me
Either way the game sucks!
NO. NFL is just fine.
