they would play division I-AA in the Colonial Athelic Association(Conferecne).
They would play their home games @ Georgia Dome
They have hired Dan Reeves as program consultant.|||As a student i would love to see GSU have a football team. College Football would be great for enrollment and for school spirit.|||I'm trying not to.|||I guess its an okay idea but I doubt there will be much support for it. They will run into the same situation like Georgia Southern did where most of the people in the state already have their allegiances to UGA or Ga Tech. Ga Southern has had a successful run but a lot of their students still head up to Athens for football games. I just don't see the fans choosing to go to a Ga State football game if the Dawgs or jackets are playing at home.|||If the university and athletic department have the resources necessary for football, why not? The CAA is a good conference, and football is a dominant sport in the south. It will be good for overall student morale and attracting new students to the university.
I'm an alum of both Illinois and Southern Illinois. SIU football will never compete with the excitement of Illinois football, as their best season ('91) they only averaged drawing 12,000 fans. But when SIU went to Illinois in September '90, the stadium was packed like a Big Ten game and everyone was enthralled by SIU jumping out to a big lead, then Howard Griffith set the NCAA record by scoring 8 touchdowns for Illinois. Similarly, for GSU to play the Bulldogs and 'Jackets would be great for campus morale, and it could be a home game for them at the Georgia Dome. Realistically, no other I-AA school could hope to host a BCS school (okay, probably Georgia or Tech would call it a home game, but how exciting would that be for the GSU fans).
Go for it.
